The beauty of the Z6 caliber

Aug 23, 2010,12:40 PM

The Z6 caliber is the first caliber totally exclusive to Harry Winston. HW used previously exclusive module but it is the first time a whole caliber was specifically designed for Harry Winston. It was developed by Jean-François Mojon, the father of the Opus X.

I really love this caliber due to its wonderful layout: the twin-barrels are of course the most visible parts, giving the ability to the watch to strike the alarm during 20 seconds without badly influencing the power reserve (and the accuracy) of the time display (the overall power reserve is 3 days). Both barrels are wound at the same time.

Its main originality is the hammer positioning dial side. This gives the ability to get more space to design the bridges and plate of the caliber and to see it playing while the watch is on the wrist.

Caliber is composed by 340 parts including 45 jewels. All the bridges are hand-chanfered: I really like the different shapes of these bridges especially the balance wheel one, far from being a mere cross-through bridge !

The barrel of the alarm is located at the bottom of the caliber while the time display one is on the top.

This caliber gathers great technical and decorative finishings, it is the reason why it is one of my fav new handwind calibers with the Zeitwerk one.

I think the movement is quite intriguing, and it feels very technical. Thanks for the great pictures! Cheers, Daos
